Our Food Cooperative group is a ministry that partners with low-income folks in our area and addresses food insecurity through relationships and collaborative work. Members of the Food Co-op meet twice each month to pool our time, energy, and skills as we sort and pack grocery items from the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank, or various donors. We seek to have many healthy food options available, and each member goes home with a substantial supply of groceries. Each member has their own role, whether that is unloading food from vehicles, leading the group meeting, serving in hospitality, dividing up groceries proportionally to family sizes/needs, and so on. Our meetings also include an optional time of devotion, prayer requests, and time to give feedback and discuss how the Co-op is going. Each of the 20 members of the Co-op represents their entire household, so we are currently serving 79 people each time we meet.
While a great deal of resources for our Food Co-op come from the Food Bank or Diaper Bank, we still rely on donations. You can either give to the Feeding Our Friends Fund or drop off any of these items at the church:
- Dog Food
- Cat Food
- Cat Litter
- Adult Diapers (L/XL)
- Baby Wipes
- Baby Diapers (N-6)
- We have an annual Diaper Drive to reciprocate support and maintain our partnership with Bundles of Hope. The next drive is set for Advent 2024.
You can drop off donation items at the church office during the week or at church on Sundays. Click here for more information and directions.
We currently have a long waiting list to join our Food Co-op group. However, if you would like more information about our group or wish to apply, you can call our church office at (205) 836-3201. Food Co-op members must have reliable transportation to and from the church, have some ability to physically participate in our work, and be prepared to work well with others.
